Fifth interim report of Irish involvement in FP7

From the beginning of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) in January 2007 to April 2010 , researchers from Irish companies and higher education institutions won funding totalling €213million. This equates to 1.45% of the budget and the Irish success rate is 24.28%, above the European Member State average of 22.28%.

Companies have taken approximately 26%, or in excess of €55 million, of the funding to date, 69% of which went to SMEs, the remainder to mainly multinationals based in Ireland.

The higher education institutions have taken 61% or in excess of €129million of the funding and the remaining 13% went to public bodies and research performing organisations.

FP7 offers Ireland's SMEs, multinationals, higher education and research institutions valuable opportunities to participate in world class research collaborations with our European counterparts.

Enterprise Ireland continues to provide financial and non-financial support to academic researchers and Irish companies for proposal preparation.

The high level of activity of Irish researchers (academic and industry) and the Irish success rate ahead of the overall EU average remain very positive indications of the prospects for Irish participation in FP7 and are in line with the national target of winning €600m in EU R&D funding by 2013.
