Regions: leading the way Research and Innovation for growth and competitiveness. The conference will address the Innovation Union context of the 'Capacities' work programme, especially that of the Research Potential Programme, with emphasis on research and innovation as key drivers of competitiveness, jobs, sustainable growth and social progress.

Description

The 4th WIRE Conference will take place at University College Cork, on the 6-7 of June 2013. It is co-organized by Enterprise Ireland and the European Commission and supported by FP7, the 7th Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development.

Theme: Horizon 2020 and Cohesion Policy

It will aim to contribute substantially to research, innovation and regional policy development on topics such as:

  •  Tough Choices i.e. the need to select few priorities on the basis of international specialisation and integration on international value chains
  • Competitive Advantage and the mobilisation of talent by matching Research & Innovation with business needs and capacities
  • Collaborative Leadership i.e. efficient innovation systems as a collective endeavour based on partnership between private and public entities and synergies between funding instruments from the EU, national and regional policies.
  • The conference is organised by Enterprise Ireland and is supported by the European Commission Directorate for Research and Innovation and its Industrial Technologies Programme. It is one of a series of events being held around the Irish Presidency of the EU and is by invitation only.
