Seventh EU Framework Programme Ireland

In 2010 the first joint UK Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Society and Irish Earth Observation Symposium conference will be held in Cork, Ireland. It will be hosted by University College Cork and the National Maritime College of Ireland from 31st August to 3rd September 2010.

European Research Council (ERC) grants aim to support "Frontier Research", in other words the pursuit of questions at or beyond the frontiers of knowledge, without regard for established disciplinary boundaries. Applications can be made in any field of research - including the social sciences and humanities - with particular emphasis on the frontier of science, scholarship and engineering. The Starter Grant is for applicants between 2 and 12 years post PhD. Awards of up to €2m can be applied for.

Information Day on the FP7-SEC-2011-1 Security Research Call offers new research funding opportunities to research institutions, universities, industries, SMEs, civil society organizations and any other security stakeholders.

IRCSET will be hosting a National Information Day event concerning the 2011 Science in Society Work Programme on Sept 14th, 2010 which will be webcasted live. The event will take place at Engineers Ireland from 11am to 2:30pm. John Denari, the NCP of SiS, will go through the work programme. Additional speakers will be successful applicants from last year. A networking coffee (prior to meeting) and lunch (after meeting) will both occur on the day.

The aim of this one day course is to train research managers and administrators in writing professional and competitive proposals for the Framework 7 Programme.The course describes the relevance of Framework 7 to EU policies, the common problems in proposal writing and the success criteria for proposals. The course provides tips on how to collect information, how to select strategic partners and how to avoid duplication in proposal writing. The final section describes a strategy for proposal writing.

From 15th to 16th September 2010 the University of Padua (IT) will host the official international information day for FP7 Space 4th Call. The event will be organised by COSMOS and supported by the University of Padua.

As part of the European Economic Recovery Plan, the EU Commission has launched three Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). The three PPPs represent a powerful means of boosting research efforts in three large industrial sectors - automotive, construction and manufacturing - which have been particularly affected by the economic downturn and where innovation can significantly contribute towards a more green and sustainable economy. 1."Factories of the Future" initiative for the manufacturing sector (€1.2 billion for R&D); 2."Energy-efficient Buildings" initiative for the construction sector (€1 billion for R&D); and 3."Green Cars" initiative for the automotive sector worth a total of €5 billion, of which €1 billion is for research activities. The Commission foresees to provide a contribution of 50% to the total R&D budget from the budget of the 7th Framework Programme, with matching investment coming from the private sector, which will in fact largely be through their human capital and in kind contributions. The 2010 timetable opened on July 20, is a single stage submission process with a deadline of December 2. The purpose of the webinar is to advise participants of specifics the 2010 call for proposals and provide practical advice on the preparation of proposals and how to join consortia.

1st EASN Association Workshop on Aerostructures and the 2nd General Assembly of the EASN Association in Paris, Suresnes, on the 7th - 8th of October 2010

This is the final announcement and invitation to the 1st EASN Association Workshop on Aerostructures and the 2nd General Assembly of the EASN Association which will take place in Paris, Suresnes, on the 7th - 8th of October 2010.

In anticipation of the forthcoming Calls 1.3 and 7.3 (FP7-ICT-2011-7 and FP7-2011-NMP-ICT-FoF) of the ICT Theme of the 7th Research Framework Programme (ICT-FP7), the Commission services organise on Friday 8th October 2010 an open Information Day. Everyone will have the opportunity to present ideas and share them with both the Commission services and other prospective participants in the above mentioned Calls

Call 7 of the FP7 ICT Work Programme 2011-12 is expected to be published later in September 2010. In this context, the Commission services are organising an InfoDay specifically focused on the Objective 1.5 Networked Media and Search Systems in Brussels on Monday, 25 October 2010.

This event will bring together the EO and Earth-system communities, as well as scientific institutions and space agencies involved in the observation, characterisation and forecasting of land-atmosphere interactions and their impacts.

This course is targeted for those who have been successful in evaluations, those going through contract negotiation and those already participating in projects. It offers a strong set of templates and project management tools for negotiating and administering framework 7 grant agreements.
